Hip Hop Rap Fashion Trends From 1978 Present Day
It has been so long since we have seen Hip Hop artists out on the stage, that it would be hard to deny that there are a great number of changes that happen in hip hop fashion from the time that artists like Ice Cube, Big Daddy Kane and others started to make a name for themselves. A good example of this is when Common gave his first ever hip hop record, “Eazy E” in 1977. Although this record did not exactly hit the charts, it was one of the first hip hop albums to include the dancehall style, which was quickly becoming popular with many other artists. With this, the “Hip Hop Music” movement was born, and things began to change drastically for both artists and fans of music.
The group Who is it? was not a popular act at this point in time, and their single, “Take Me Away” was not even played on the radio. Yet, the music they were creating was going to be something that many artists would soon become involved with and incorporate into their own styles. In fact, many artists in the Hip Hop music genre were influenced by Who is it, and many of their best songs are incorporated into the rap genre. This is why it can be so difficult to tell which hip hop songs have actually been created with certain influences, and which ones are merely influenced by the styles used in Who is it.
It is interesting to note that even today, there are still many artists that are keeping the old school sounds, yet have completely changed the way they’re presented. Often times, this is done by adding a bit of female vocals, as well as incorporating a more dancehall feel to the overall sound of the rap song. Another reason that this type of music continues to be popular could have a lot to do with the simple fact that it’s so easy to mimic. There are plenty of rap artists who know what it takes to pull off the newer hip hop trends, and if you give them a beat, they’ll probably take all of the necessary elements and change it up a bit, for their own benefit.
